Certificates

UC Berkeley offers several undergraduate certificates, requiring fewer courses than a traditional minor.

The Course Threads program allows students to explore the richness of Berkeley's course offerings by connecting courses across disciplines. To earn a course thread certificate, complete 3 approved courses and participate in the semester-end symposium sponsored by the Townsend Center for the Humanities. Course Thread themes include Humanities & Environment, Culture & Globalization, and Law & Humanities.

An interdisciplinary approach to studying cities and urban life, jointly hosted by the division of Arts & Humanities and the College of Environmental Design. The undergraduate certificate in Global Urban Humanities requires 3 courses (2 electives, and a fieldwork course).

The Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation integrates methods, technologies, knowledge and thought from a wide range of different disciplines. The certificate connects design approaches from the division of Arts & Humanities, College of Engineering, College of Environmental Design, and the Haas School of Business. The program trains students to take responsibility for the entire life cycle of innovation, from idea to execution and beyond.

This summer-only certificate is designed for students pursuing careers in film and media. The certificate requires a total of 3 courses on topics such as Pitch to Production, Entertainment Law, Film & Media Professions and Understanding Film Sound.
