Arts Constellation: Student Access and Support

Arts & Humanities is one of the most diverse divisions on campus, welcoming students from all walks of life. We are committed to ensuring equity of access. Your gifts to the Fund for Students in the Arts & Humanities remove financial barriers and support opportunities for all students who wish to pursue majors and careers in arts-related fields.

Here are just a few of our programs to support access to the arts at Berkeley.

  • The Arts & Humanities Creative Careers program helps students chart a path to their future careers. We host mixers that encourage networking between undergraduates and early-career professionals in arts and humanities industries and offer resume-building workshops. “Humanities in Action: Alumni Career Conversations” (HUM20) is a one-unit class that brings back alums who have made their mark in a broad array of fields to talk about how their degrees in the arts and humanities prepared them for their professional trajectories.

  • Summer awards for students who wish to travel to pursue a research project or study a foreign language.

  • The Department of Music experienced a 236% increase in declared music majors from 2020 to 2024, reflecting the department’s success in expanding its curriculum to attract students with diverse musical interests and experiences. But many students who show promise as musical performers lack access to the personalized training that was available to many of their peers. We aim to increase funding for private music lessons, making them accessible to students of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Project grants for arts students provide funding to allow students to foster their creative talents by pursuing specific projects or arts research. By offsetting the cost of materials, exhibitions, performances, publications, workshops, or conferences, these grants help students realize their vision and gain experience as working artists.

  • We are working to expand stipends for mentorship and internship opportunities for students, helping ensure equity of access as students build their experience and professional networks in the art world.
