The Division of Arts and Humanities is pleased to announce four awards, each in the amount of $3,000, to recognize distinguished teaching and extraordinary work to create and support an inclusive climate in the Division of Arts and Humanities.
Purposes of the awards and eligibility
- The distinguished teaching award for Senate faculty members is intended to encourage and reward Senate faculty members who have been exceptionally generous and effective in teaching. Those eligible for this award include only those Senate members who (a) are in the Division of Arts and Humanities, (b) have not retired, and (c) have not received the Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award.
- The distinguished teaching award for Lecturers is intended to encourage and reward lecturers who have been exceptionally generous and effective in teaching. Those eligible for this award include only those lecturers who (a) are in the Division of Arts and Humanities, (b) have not retired, and (c) have not received the Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award.
- The distinguished teaching award for Graduate Students is intended to encourage and reward graduate students who have been exceptionally generous and effective in teaching. Those eligible for this award include only those graduate students who are in the Division of Arts and Humanities.
- The Art and Humanities Climate Award is intended to encourage and reward any Senate faculty member or lecturer in the Division of Arts and Humanities who has taken special initiative to build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable climate in the Division. Those eligible for this award include Senate faculty members and lecturers currently in the Division of Arts and Humanities.
Procedure
Letters of nomination should be no longer than one page in length and should explain the specific ways in which the nominee(s) have excelled in teaching or in building an equitable climate.
Award nominations should be submitted to the Dean’s Office by the Department Chair. If a nomination is prepared by a person or committee appointed by the Chair, the Chair should also briefly indicate his or her own assessment of the accomplishments of the nominee. The nomination should be submitted via this google form.
Chairs are invited to submit nominations to the Dean no later than Friday, April 11, 2025.
Senate faculty will receive the $3,000 award as research funding. Lecturers will receive it as a one-time payment paid out in the summer and graduate students will receive the $3,000 award as a summer stipend.
